Dear WCSMA Membership:

It is my sincere pleasure to report that this year’s All-County Chorus, Orchestra, and Band concerts were a tremendous success! Many of our members came together to support a truly outstanding performance. My heartfelt thanks go to the staff at New Rochelle High School for all of their support as hosts and to all those who volunteered their time and materials to bring our festival to life. Congratulations to Shadman Mirza, Jenny Pyne, Hannah Geiling, and Emily Ilson for coordinating such a beautiful event.

Our All-County Jazz Festival is happening this Friday, March 15 at 7:30 at Hommocks Middle School in the Mamaroneck U.F.S.D. Tickets will be sold in the auditorium lobby and are $15 for adults/$5 for students. Prepare for another excellent show this year, with many thanks to Jim Mullen for all of his organization and leadership in running this festival.

The NYSSMA festival season is also upon us. Here are the dates and locations:

  • Strings I-IV festival is April 12-13 in Blind Brook (Don Whitman, host)
  • Up-county festival is April 26-27 in Chappaqua (Kathleen Feldman, host)
  • Down-county festival is May 2-4 in Pelham (Andrew Van Bochove, host)
  • Piano festival is May 31-June 1 in Ardsley (Susan Lee-Chong and Lisa DeFrenza, hosts)
  • Majors is May 28-31 in Lakeland (Jamie Stroffolino, host)

More information regarding our NYSSMA festivals can be found here: http://wcsma.org/new/portfolio/nyssma/

We also have two different scholarship applications that are now open. The Milton Williams Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to two students entering 10-12th grade who intend to study music over the summer. This application was emailed on March 12 via TJ Bastone. The other scholarship, one that is brand new to our organization, is the Past Presidents Scholarship. It is a $1000 scholarship awarded to a current 12th-grade student who will be studying music education at an accredited college in the Fall. This application was emailed on March 6 via TJ Bastone. Please email Jamie Stroffolino (jstroffolino@lakelandschools.org) if you have any questions regarding these two scholarships.

Teachers who will be retiring this year: please let Jon Riss know so that we may celebrate you at our end-of-year gathering. Send him an email at rissj@hohschools.org. Our end-of-year gathering details will be soon forthcoming!

Although my term as President ends this year, please know that I will continue to support our organization and our efforts in Westchester County for many years to come. I will be sharing all of our 2024-2025 festival dates and locations through email in the coming days. If I can be of any help or service in the meantime please do not hesitate to reach out to me. It is my pleasure to serve you, our organization, and Westchester County!

Sincerely,

Jamie Stroffolino
